Drug Uses
Fioricet is a barbiturate sedative mixed with a non–aspirin pain medication and caffeine. This nonnarcotic pain medication and relaxant is often prescribed to relieve tension headaches caused by contractions of the muscles in the neck and shoulder area, and migraine.

How Taken
Fioricet comes as a capsule or tablet to take in orally. The usual dosage is 1–2 tablets every 4 hours as needed. Total daily dosage should not be more than 6 tablets. Extended and repeated use of this product is not recommended as this drug may be habit forming.

Warnings and Precautions
Be careful when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities. If you experience dizziness or drowsiness, avoid these activities. It is advised not to take sleeping pills, tranquilizers, sedatives, and antihistamines and alcohol, as these may increase drowsiness caused by Fioricet. Talk to your doctor if you are being treated from severe depression or have a history of severe depression or drug abuse. Elderly patients or patients in a weakened condition may be more sensitive to effects of Fioricet and are more likely to experience side effects. Notify your doctor if you have kidney or liver problems or if you have serious abdominal trouble. Do not start or stop taking any medication without your doctor`s approval. Fioricet may effect the development of a baby during pregnancy, and it is known that Fioricet passes into breast milk, therefore do not take this drug if you are pregnant, likely to become pregnant or if you are breastfeeding, unless your doctor tells you otherwise.

Missed Dose
If you miss a dose take it as soon as you remember. If it is nearly time for the next dose, skip the Missed Dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Possible Side Effects
Some of the Possible Side Effects are- abdominal pain, dizziness, drowsiness, intoxicated feeling, lightheadedness, nausea, sedation, shortness of breath, vomiting, agitation, allergic reactions, constipation, depression, difficulty swallowing, dry mouth, earache, exaggerated feeling of wellbeing, excessive sweating, excessive urination, excitement, fainting, fatigue, fever, flatulence, headache, heartburn, heavy eyelids, high energy, hot spells, itching, leg pain, mental confusion, muscle fatigue, numbness, rapid heartbeat, ringing in the ears, seizure, shaky feeling, skin redness and/or peeling, sluggishness, stuffy nose, tingling. If you experience any of these or any other side effects, contact your doctor promptly. Only your doctor can determine whether you can continue taking Fioricet or not.

Storage
Store this drug below 30°C (86°F), Keep away from children and excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom).

Overdose
If overdose is suspected seek medical attention immediately. An overdose of Fioricet, or combining this medication with alcohol or other central nervous system depressant, may be fatal or lead to unconsciousness. Some of the symptoms of overdose are- drowsiness, confusion, extreme weakness, hallucination, shortness of breath, too slow or troubled breathing, slurred speech, lack of coordination, vomiting with blood, unusually slow heartbeat.

More Information
If you have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) in the last 14 days, do not take Fioricet, as dangerous side effects may occur. Fioricet may increase the effects of other drugs that cause drowsiness, including antidepressants, alcohol, antihistamines, sedatives (used to treat insomnia), other pain relievers, anxiety medicines, and muscle relaxants. Let your doctor know of all the medications you are taking. Do not start or stop taking any medicine without your doctor`s approval.
