There is a new medication being worked on offering promise for those men who suffer from premature ejaculation (PE). This drug is called Priligy, or generic form is named dapoxetine. This is a SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) it was originally developed for depression but after much research into the product it was deemed that it would have to be taken several times a day in order to work and that seemed a little to unrealistic for people to take that often. However what has been known about many SSRI’s is their ability and sometimes off label usage as a premature ejaculation treatment. So the research and study went into this product to be tested as such. What was found out is that this product not only was superior at accomplishing this but that it also was found to be eliminated by ones system faster than other SSRI’s making it an optimal treatment for PE.

Statistics show that as many as one third of men experience premature ejaculation (PE) either regularly or occasionally. As a result a treatment such as Priligy (Dapoxetine) could really prove to be a very successful, not only to the company manufacturing it, but also to those men. This benefit also really benefits the female population whose partner is experiencing PE. Priligy/Dapoxetine’s basic working description is that it communicates to the brain to delay ejaculation. But in the process does not take away from the nerve endings/sensations felt (unlike some common PE treatments on the market). In studies, the time delayed has been very encouraging.

Studies show that many men suffering from this condition have found that this treatment has successfully increased their times upwards of three to five times their regular. Specifically some examples from the studies are an average increase time from 1 ¾ minutes to 2 ¾ minutes on a low dosage of dapoxetine. On a mid dose, the average time increased from 1 ¾ minutes to over 3 ½ minutes. On the highest dose some men even better results. Although to some this time may not seem like much, to those men and their partners this time is a vast improvement in their opinion.

With most other medications there are some side effects and warnings that are to be expected. Priligy Dapoxetine has been shown to have some mostly minor side effects in some if its patients including issues like dizziness, nausea, headache and diarrhea as well as tiredness. Other precautions are that this is generally not to be taken if someone is already taking a SSRI or specific migraine headache drugs, as well as a warning not to mix alcohol with this product. Always consult your doctor about any such issues. Generally this is to be taken one to three hours before it is needed and studies show that it in most cases can be taken along with a PDE5 inhibitor such as any medication used for erectile dysfunction. But it is always recommended to talk to your doctor. So far this product is available in various European and some other countries for PE, but not yet available in the United States.
